Wood Burning Stoves in Thatched Cottages

I was reading a telegraph article today which identify’s a trend between the increase in use of wood burning stoves and the amount of thatched cottages catching fire.

This made me think about the amount of installations out there that have been installed incorrectly or where poor advice has been given to customers.

If you live in a thatched cottage we have the following advice:

  • Always have a HETAS installer quote for the job, not just a plumber/builder
  • Always have the chimney lined
  • Make sure that a Spark Arrester cowl is fitted to prevent sparks from settling on the roof

These are just 3 crucial points, your fitter will advise you further when he surveys the job.

Wood Burning Stoves for Christmas

Have we gone mad? It’s August and The Greener Company are talking about Christmas!

However there is method in our madness, last year saw unprecedented demand for Multifuel & Wood Burning Stoves seeing lead times from manufacturers increasing by the day. All the manufacturers were caught out and stock was scarce meaning many families were left disappointed with an empty hole staring at them while they unwrapped their presents!

This year we are advising all our customers to buy their stoves early. We are already seeing installations getting busier and all indications point to a busy heating season yet again.

Last year the manufacturers let us down and let our customers down by communicating lead times that weren’t kept. Although all signs show that manufacturers are better prepared this year, order early to avoid disappointment!
