Who Are HETAS?
HETAS are the official body that is recognised by the UK Government to approve solid fuel and biomass domestic heating appliances, fuels and services which includes the training and registration of competent installers, retailers and manufacturers.
What does that mean for me?
When investigating how you will install your Wood Burning Stove you will need to find a competent stove installer. HETAS run a scheme where they have examined stove installers who have passed their standards and can therefore claim to be a ‘HETAS Registered Installer’. The advantage of employing a HETAS registered installer is that they can ‘self certify’ their installations meaning that you do not need to notify your local Building Control Department nor pay their fees.
Do I have to employ a HETAS Stove Fitter?
No. As with most building work, if it is carried out in conjunction with Building Control and they pass it, any person is free to carry out the work. Building regulations that are relevant to Wood Burning Stoves is Building Regulation Document J which you can find here.
Are you a HETAS approved company or authorised by HETAS?
No. We are merely a Wood Burning Stove Information website. Any information regarding HETAS or their services should be directed to:

Are all Stove Installers in your Stove Installer list HETAS Registered?
No. This list has been compiled to include stove installers, by area, who advertise Stove Installation Services. You must clarify with the stove installer directly whether they are HETAS registered or not. As mentioned above, a stove installer does not have to be registered with HETAS to legally install a stove and registration with HETAS does not guarantee the skill or professionalism of the Stove Installer.
