Wood Burning Stoves in Thatched Cottages

I was reading a telegraph article today which identify’s a trend between the increase in use of wood burning stoves and the amount of thatched cottages catching fire.

This made me think about the amount of installations out there that have been installed incorrectly or where poor advice has been given to customers.

If you live in a thatched cottage we have the following advice:

  • Always have a HETAS installer quote for the job, not just a plumber/builder
  • Always have the chimney lined
  • Make sure that a Spark Arrester cowl is fitted to prevent sparks from settling on the roof

These are just 3 crucial points, your fitter will advise you further when he surveys the job.
